European Partnerships

Horizon Europe Co-fund Partnerships

European Partnerships are the new version of the joint programming initiatives that existed in the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme (ERA-NET, Public–Private Partnerships, Eurostars-2, EIT-KICs, etc.), and before that since 2002, with the aim of reducing the fragmentation of research efforts in Europe.

Partenariados europeos

The new European Partnerships are designed to respond to ambitious and complex objectives that cannot be addressed through other types of projects by providing a framework for collaboration at the programme level between the European Union and public and private partners.

All partnerships are based on their own Strategic Research and Innovation Agendas (SRIAs), which are accepted by all participants in each partnership. In short, they are initiatives in which the EU, together with private and/or public partners, commits to jointly support the development and implementation of a programme of research and innovation activities.

Partnerships are expected to make a significant contribution to achieving the European Union's objectives, while also contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The co-funded European Partnerships are mostly thematically linked to the Clusters, and each one has an Annual Work Plan.

Partnerships co-funded by the European Commission (Cofund) are selected through calls for a co-funding action published in the Horizon Europe work programme. Participants are mostly funding agencies from EU member states, associated countries and sometimes third countries. They are the successors of the European Joint Programme (EJP), ERA-NET Cofund Eurostars-2 and H2020.

The entities participating in the co-funded partnerships are responsible for setting up a joint programme they will implement themselves, which will include joint international calls with funding from both the participating funding agencies and the EC.

CDTI Innovation, within the scope of its competences, takes part in these programmes, consortia and joint programming initiatives at a European and international level, and is represented on their governing bodies.

Horizon Europe brings with it new forms of participation (known as partnerships or associations) in which CDTI Innovation is actively working with the Ministry of Science and Innovation to help achieve the internationalisation objectives of the Spanish Science, Technology and Innovation System (SECTI), reflected in the Spanish Science, Technology and Innovation Strategies and in the successive State Plans that develop them.

CDTI Innovation Grants in Horizon Europe Cofund Partnerships

The main objective of these Partnerships is to implement joint calls for the support of transnational technological cooperation projects in strategic areas of high added value in Europe.

The calls comprise an international and a national phase, each with their respective eligibility requirements and application procedures, which must be fulfilled in order to receive public aid.

Only projects approved in the international phase of the calls will be eligible to receive CDTI Innovation grants. All information regarding the conditions for grants, eligibility rules and the application process can be found in the respective link for each Partnership.
