Identified need

All critical system, as a hospital, has a system of support in the case of failure of electricity supply. The current systems of support are based on fossil fuels, which implies CO emissions₂.

The Institut Catalá de la Salut, ICS (ICS) supports the decarbonisation of its network of hospitals and within the same, the Hospital Universitari Germans Trias i Pujol is expected to total energy decarbonisation in the coming years and the future replacement of their current systems to support this, validate the feasibility of using hydrogen vector (generation, transformation and storage of hydrogen verde), not only as a system of support but also as the integrated energy system, ensuring sustainability criteria and respect the environment in a hospital setting. These demostradores systems should be considered as variable to the functions of support and energy supply (H₂green and electricity) of specific burdens in accordance with the energy manager of the hospital. In addition, it should also take advantage of the products obtained in the process of electrolysis, such as oxygen and residual heat electrolizador and fuel cell, to maximize the overall performance (cost, efficiency and emissions) of the prototypes. The innovative solution proposed in response to the Technological challenge should benefit from advances in technologies of hydrogen and wise management and integrated within energy management systems of the hospital.
