Spain reinforces technological cooperation with south korea
Recently there has been renewed memorandum of Understanding (MOU, by its initials in english) between the CDTI Innovation by spain and KYATS (Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology) by south korea to promote technological cooperation between the two countries
During the second edition of the board of industrial technological cooperation between España and south korea and chaired by Teresa Riesgo, secretary-General of Innovation of the ministry of science, innovation and universities (MICIN) and Seung Chul Oh, deputy minister of the ministry of commerce, industry and energy (MOTIE) from south korea, addressed different strategic themes in the area of technology, such as the excellent cooperation that has existed in the two calls held by 2023 and 2024 “ Korea Spain Strategic Program ” (KSSP) to support technological projects far-reaching and visibility. In particular in these years there have been four projects related to mobility and energy.
Furthermore, within the framework of the Eureka also revised the excellent results of south korea since its participation in the programme, and highlighted the potential pillar II of Horizon Europa offers this country on the occasion of their participation.
Calls “ Korea Spain Strategic Program ”
Both Ministerios have stressed the importance of continued support and 2026 calls 2025, with a budget of eur 5 million per country. This year, the call is directed to finance projects in the field of Artificial intelligence and 2026-related developments semicondutores.
During the meeting, the Director General of CDTI innovation, José Moisés Martín Carretero, and the president of the agency, KYATS Byungjoo Min, renewed the MOU between the two entities with the aim of maintaining the commitments made by calling KSSP bilateral and multilateral initiatives and Eureka Horizonte Europa.
Intensive technological cooperation
South korea enjoys a privileged geopolitical situation in the north-east asia. This country, key technological partner for España, bet decisively by economic growth based on the knowledge economy.
Institutional relations of science and technology between the two states date back to 1975 with the signing of an agreement for scientific and technical cooperation between the two countries.
With regard to technology cooperation, since the year 2009 the CDTI Innovation active collaboration with the agency KYATS that have been formalized by means of successive MOUs and which have developed many technological projects in sectors that are strategic for both countries as the industry are connected, technologies associated with smart cities, transport, biotechnology and health, among others.
CDTI Innovation
The centre for technological development and innovation, CDTI E.P.E is a public company whose goal is the promotion of technological innovation in business. In 2024, within the framework of a new strategic plan, the CDTI provided more than $2.3 billion euros of support for business startups and spain.
The CDTI mission is to ensure that the business fabric english generates and transform knowledge into growth científico-técnico globally competitive, sustainable and inclusive. To that end, promotes innovation and technological development of spanish companies, channeling requests for funding and support for r & D & I projects of spanish entities at the state and international levels, help to improve the technological level of spanish companies and drives and accompanying, with an international network with coverage of 51 territories, the spanish participation in international programmes for technology cooperation and the international transfer of technology. The CDTI also supports the creation and consolidation of technology-based enterprises in Spain.
