Manuel Angel Bust: "Aid granted to us by the CDTI Innovation represent a major incentive for the exploration of new technologies"

In the spanish company 2019 Seresco initiated a project in collaboration with the egyptian company Smartec System and the university of Cairo, to develop a management platform capable of controlling and explore diverse variables of the olive crop and, through an intelligent system, to recommend the most suitable to the farmer. This has involved a technological challenge

The robotización "and digitization of our agriculture are crucial to Spain continues to be a producer country, exporter and international modal"

The olive tree cultivation with great economic impact on the whole of the mediterranean basin, especially in countries like spain that produces more than 40 per cent of the total number of olive oil and a 21 per cent of table olives of the world. Aware of its importance, the technology company Seresco has developed, in collaboration with two entities, an egyptian management platform that contributes to more efficient production of this fruit.

Currently, the agricultural sector is facing the challenge of feeding a growing population, with a limited arable area. In addition, there are the challenges of climate change, the scarcity of raw materials, and its rise, increasing pressure from european sustainability policy, the demand for organic products and the high expectations of consumers.

Therefore, the implementation of ict and new techniques used in precision agriculture will contribute to a significant growth in more effective crops.

Technological challenge.

Manuel Angel to Bust, Director-GeneralSerescothis project has been a technological challenge: “ The platform that we have developed is a useful tool for efficient management of the olive grove because it allows to optimize the resources required and can get to predict and identify the emergence of certain pests such as fly verticilosis and olive trees. It also includes intelligent algorithms that facilitate the processing of data to carry out a thorough analysis of each vintage ”.

To that end, these have been used different methodologies which have introduced, among others, those related to the Artificial Intelligence and with the neural networks Convolucionales Causes.

“ this project was carried out by the ESITIP that is managed by theCDTI Innovation. Its main objective has been forging partnerships of indiscriminately public and private entities for the deployment of ICT in different productive sectors such as agro-industry. Moreover, we have had the collaboration of the centre of Virginia and Biology of the Segura Applied (CEBAS), belonging to the CSIC, and the university of Córdoba ”.

The knowledge gained in this development, the productCultivated Decisions, the platform of precision viticulture combining heterogeneous data sources such as satellite imagery, meteorological stations network and data bioclimáticos. Also implements essential intelligent algorithms for planning and decision-making in wine.

Another project is reachingFlexiGroBotswhose aim is to demonstrate the viability of robotic technologies in the agricultural sector to an acceptable cost, oriented to precision agriculture.

“ it is indisputable, – ensures Manuel Angel Bust – that robotización and digitization of our agriculture are crucial to maintain our position of producer, exporter, and world famous. The competitiveness of our companies will depend on their ability to automate the processes more expensive and unproductive ”.

Among its numerous projects include those involving artificial vision; a platform for the development of applications and multi-robot systems, both land and air, as well as other partners to traceability of products; treatment of geospatial information and digitization of agricultural and industrial processes.

“ we work with both national and international entities from the public and private sectors; To carry out these technological developments aid granted to us by theCDTI Innovationa major incentive for the exploration of new technologies, to some extent, could be considered immature and therefore pose a risk implicit in the return of investment and the quality of results but that in return, provide significant value step. In this regard, we are very grateful for the work of counselling and support given by the CDTI Innovation ”.
