In these past seven years the CDTI innovation has earmarked eur 185 million for the development of technological projects against cancer
Cancer is one of the greatest challenges facing society today by its high economic and social impact and a major cause of morbidity and mortality in the world. Aware of this reality, in the past seven years, the CDTI Innovation has granted eur 185 million to finance about 190 technological projects developed by spanish companies

According to the report The Figures of cancer in Spain 2025, edited by theSpanish society of Medical Oncology (SEOM)in collaboration with theSpanish network of Cancer Registries (REDECAN)this year, the number of cancers diagnosed in Spain it is estimated that it will reach the 296.103 cases, 3.3 per cent by 2024.
However, thanks to the oncology of precision biomarkers will identify many of these new cancer cases and select the most effective treatments for each patient.
The CDTI Innovation supports edge research
TheCDTI Innovation, public funding of innovation in Spain, acts as agent in innovative ecosystem english to promote the development of many technological projects. In the case of technologies developed against cancer, led by the company Palobiofarma is conducting an investigation of three new preclinical targeted therapies acting on cancer through different molecular mechanisms that activate the immune system.
Another of the projects funded by theCDTI Innovationin recent years is the developed by the company Protein Alternatives to develop a test which will allow us, through blood or saliva patients, cases of lung cancer.
Breast cancer
Despite the improvements in detection and treatment, breast cancer is one of the commoner in women. Its early detection is of great importance to reduce the incidence of death and the social and economic costs of this disease.
For this reason, the company Zataca Systems are being implemented with financial assistance of the CDTI innovation, a project to detect this type of cancer through artificial thermal vision and machine learning.
In the case of ovarian, SunRock Biopharma is also developing new strategies for the treatment of treatment of this type of disease.
Development of a linear accelerator
The use of irradiation techniques of tumours is one of the essential pillars of the multidisciplinary treatment of cancer. The use of charged particles as heavy ion/proton lets take a qualitative leap in the treatment of tumors, providing a better distribution of the dose provided, reducing the collateral damage associated with the irradiation of healthy tissue, improving quality of life for patients and reducing the economic impact on the health system.
The CDTI Innovation also participates in the development of the first research infrastructure of hadronterapia based on a ion accelerator emissions of España which will be a pioneer in the fight against cancer. The investment is 21.8 million euros.
The prototype developed will be displayed at the facilities of theIN 2004for validation.
