Through such instruments as Neotec, Cervera or Innvierte, CDTI favours Innovation that women increased their level of presence and contribution to innovation in terms of gender equality

More than 40 per cent of employment generated by projects in the CDTI Innovation is female, with a significant increase from 2014

The programmes and instrumentsCDTI Innovationgambling for reducing the gender gap in the field of entrepreneurship from the benefits of harnessing the talents of qualified women, tecnólogas, experts in different disciplines or directives which contribute to enriching the decision-making in business and development of innovative projects.

The recent historical data show that the percentage of women participating in projects funded by the CDTI has grown markedly, from 22.7 per cent in 2018 to 29.9 per cent in 2024. The qualifications of the women involved in these projects is very high and even more as the level of qualification. Thus, in 2024 the participation of women was 39.3 per cent among participants with doctorate; 30.3% among participants with university degrees; and 21 per cent for participants with other degrees or without them. The role of women's leadership in the projects also increased, from 18.2 per cent in 2019 to 23.8 per cent in 2024.

From 2018, has been producing a significant increase in the volume of jobs created. Only in 2024, has led to the establishment of women with jobs 1,172 projects.

Traditionally, women's participation in projects of CDTI innovation has been greatest in large companies in smes. However, this difference has been reduced and, in 2024, the presence of women in projects of large companies was 28.8 per cent compared to 29 per cent in smes, to improve the data of 2023 with 29.0 per cent in large companies and 26.3 per cent in smes.

With regard to the employment rate, from 2018 technological projects developed with the help of CDTI Innovation have created over 33,200 jobs, of which, in 8,462, included women, which is 25 per cent of total.

Specifically, in 2024, in the form of Ayudas Parcialmente Reembolsables (APRs), 26 per cent of jobs created were female, while this percentage rises up to 35 per cent in the global of appeals for grants.

The projects CDTI by topic that better data are presented by pharmacists, which, in 2018, has been a surge of employment, with 63 per cent in 2024 associated with 15 entities and generating 437 jobs.

They also highlight CDTI projects in the areas of biotechnology and health, increasing their employment by 54 per cent and 46 per cent respectively from 2018, generating 306 posts in the field of biotechnology and 359 in health.

High female participation in Neotec

In 2002, the CDTI Innovation launched a specific call (Neotec Mujeres Emprendedoras), with 5 billion in subsidies, with the aim of launching new business projects of innovative enterprises headed by women that require the use of technologies and knowledge developed since the research activity and where the business strategy is based on technology development.

Since its inception, Neotec Mujeres Emprendedoras has enjoyed wide acceptance. When first soliciting the 2022, there were 65 projects led by women who asked for more than eur 15 million, three times the strength of the programme. This fact illustrates the great traction of women in business projects technological entrepreneurship. 65 designs requested, the strength of the call made it possible to adopt 20 projects, with a budget of eur 7.4 million under the Areas Of Ict, biotechnology, health, industry, transport, infrastructure, security or defence.

To continue their support for female entrepreneurship, technology in the calls of 2023 and 2024 of Neotec established a budgetary reserve of eur 5 million for projects led by women. In 2023, 26.7 per cent of approved projects were headed by women, while in 2024, this figure had risen to 32.3 per cent. In Addition, by 2024, the presence of women in the grant scheme Neotec amounted to 37.7 per cent.
